Br. Alan Paulian
John Peter Heaney Jr. was born an only child on December 16, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He had wanted to be a Christian Brother since early childhood and entered the Juniorate at La Salle Institute in Glencoe, Missouri, in September of 1957. Three years later he graduated to the Novitiate on June 14, 1960. There, on August 30th of that same year he received the robe of the Brothers and the religious name of Brother Alan Paulian. A year later he was assigned to the Memphis Scholasticate to complete his degree in English. He died in an accident at Stritch Hall Scholasticate when a tractor he was driving hit a stump and overturned on him. He was nineteen years old and had been a De La Salle Christian Brother for only four years.
