Holy Week Retreat has been scheduled
This year the Holy Week Retreat will take place from April 5 to 7 at St. Mary of the Lake Conference Center in Mundelein, IL. The speaker and presider will be Fr. Raymond Webb, AFSC, Vice President and Academic Dean at Mundelein Seminary. The registration process will again use the WuFoo web based forms. Information will be sent to all the Brothers at a later date. Mark your calendar.
Brother James Miller Social Justice Fund Grants were awarded
On January 5th the members of the Brother James Miller Social Justice Fund committee met to review twenty-six applications and selected sixteen of them for grants totaling $11,175. The following are the recipients: Peaceful Problem-Solving Classes at DLS Middle School, St. Louis, MO; Chastity Education Program at St. Raymond H.S. for Boys, Bronx, NY; Brother James Miller Vocation Seminar, Vicariato-Apostolico, Nicaragua; Books for the Mount LaSalle College, Naka Library, Nigeria; Training Rural Youth, St. La Salle Community College, Tamil Nadu, India ; Parent as Teachers Program, St. Gabriel Mercy Center, Mound Bayou, MS; Keren Workshop with Raw Materials for Unemployed Youth, Eritrea; ESL Program for Youth, St. Anne Catholic Church, Carthage, MS; Ministry at John XXIII Educational Center, Racine, WI; Recreation and Socialization Project, Almost Home, St. Louis, MO; Creation of a School Garden, Vincent Gray Academy, East St. Louis, IL; Youth Camp/LEAD Program, Dunrovin Retreat Center, St. Croix, MN; School Beautification Project, DLS Blackfeet School, Browning, MT; Fresh Start of Winona Program, SMUMN, Winona, MN; Basic Needs for Study Centre, St. James Secondary School, Tamil Nadu, South India; Hospitality and Outings Programs, Su Casa, Chicago, IL. World Day for Consecrated Life is in February
In 1997 Pope John Paul II called for consecrated life to be promoted throughout the universal church. He declared February 2nd, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, to be observed as World Day for Consecrated Life. In the U.S. when February 2nd is not on a Sunday, the celebration is moved to the Sunday after the Presentation. WDCL will be observed on February 5th.
