The Lasallian Volunteers serving in the Midwest District gathered for a discernment retreat on the weekend of March 1-3 at Lasalle Retreat Center in Glencoe, Missouri. Coordinating the retreat were Heather Ruple (SF), Bro. Len Rhoades (DENA), and Bro. Stephen Markham. LV Staff Member Kimberley Williams was present, along with Brothers Moses Abunya (CBU), Bro. Larry Schatz, and former LV and Midwest Aspirant Michael Phipps (Lewis). Chris Hueg, who currently serves in DENA attended the retreat due to a schedule conflict on the DENA LV Retreat weekend.
Comments from the evaluations of the retreat included these:
The most helpful part of the retreat was…The peaceful quiet environment and the heavy influence of prayer throughout the retreat. It gave me the support I needed. . . meeting Brother Moses and talking to him. Wise man, that Brother Moses. . . having time alone and with others to talk, explore, think, and write. I loved the slow pace and relaxed environment. It was also helpful having such a small group.
The most helpful part of the retreat was…having the space and time I needed to reflect and getting just the right amount of insight and new info. I love discernment. . . I loved hearing others’ stories of vocation and getting a chance to articulate my own story.
As usual, the Glencoe staff, including the Brothers, were very hospitable and attentive, and the meals were delicious. They even supplied us with box lunches for the road on Sunday, although it seemed no one was in a hurry to depart. That’s understandable; it truly was a blessed weekend.
