The Midwest District nurses along with Brothers Joseph Martin and Larry Schatz met in Minneapolis on July 21-23 for their annual retreat. They were guests of the DeLaSalle Community on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis. Their three days together were filled with prayer, sharing on their ministry to the Brothers, presentations., and ample time for some R&R. On Saturday afternoon, Nurse Practitioner Mary Bullock presented on the topic of aging and balance. On Sunday afternoon, the group discussed the book “Falling Upward” by Richard Rohr.
One of the highlights was viewing the Minneapolis Aquatennial fireworks show from the roof of the Brothers’ Residence. Another was the boat cruise and brunch on the Mississippi River. Because of DeLaSalle’s splendid location, the group was able to walk everywhere, including two wonderful meals at restaurants on historic Main Street along the river.
Winona Nurse Kelly Borck said: “I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Minneapolis. I learned a great deal about our ministry and how privileged I am to be part of the Christian Brothers’ lives.” Sheila said: “”I am in the state of gratitude for working in collaboration with our District nurses and Brothers Larry Schatz and Joseph Martin during our time in Minneapolis. When I hear the words, ‘sacred time’, I know firsthand what those words mean. We shared stories and meals together during our weekend together. I also thank Brothers Bob Walsh, Nick Geimer, and Mike Callahan for their hospitality shown during our time at De La Salle Minneapolis and Contact Matt Lehman for giving us a tour of DeLaSalle High School.”.
Cindy Nichols, Memphis nurse, was not able to be present. The nurses are already looking forward to next summer’s gathering in St. Louis.
