The Brothers in Initial Formation attended a gathering at St. Mary’s University on October 11,12, 13. All the postulants as well as the novices attended. Most of the Brothers in first vows were also there. Brother Ryan Anderson gave a tour of the campus to the Brothers in Formation who had never seen St. Mary’s. The university Brothers hosted these Brothers and the Region’s vocation personnel for supper the first night. Brother Frank Carr was the cook. Brother Frank also gave an excellent presentation on St Mary’s Press (on the campus of St. Mary’s). This was followed by a tour of the facility.
The postulants led Morning Prayer the next day. Brother Armand Alcazar gave a lively presentation of “The Brother as Catechist.” There was ample time for the postulants, novices, and temporary professed to meet with Brother Joseph Felix, the Director of Formation for the Institute. In the evening, Brother William Mann, president of St. Mary’s University hosted everyone involved with the gathering for supper at the President’s House on campus. The novices led Night Prayer to close the evening.
The following morning, the Brothers in Initial Formation shared with the Vocation/Formation personnel some of their ideas for fostering vocations. These ideas would be discussed the next day at the RVFC Meeting. All attended Mass before departing for their communities. The Brothers in Initial Formation will meet again in Los Angeles in March for the LA Congress on Religious Education.
