Brother Nicholas Geimer, 89, died on December 28, 2017 at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 71 years, he was born Norman G. Geimer in Evanston, IL, son of Nicholas and Violet (Rundgren) Geimer. He attended St. George H.S. in Evanston, graduated from La Salle Institute in Glencoe, MO, and entered the novitiate of the Brothers. He professed his first vows in 1947 and his perpetual vows in 1953. During his years as an educator, Brother Nicholas taught in schools in Chicago, St. Louis, MO, Escanaba, MI, and Stevens Point, WI. From 1985 to 1995 he was a staff member at Sangre de Cristo Retreat Center in Santa Fe, NM. He was also a missionary in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, and served in the Brothers’ formation programs in Nairobi, Kenya. He lived in the De La Salle Community in Minneapolis since 2002 and recently moved to St. Pauls House in Chicago. Survivors include his brothers, Brother Richard Geimer of Westmont, and Albert Geimer of Skokie, and the De La Salle Christian Brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Pauls House, 3800 N. California, in Chicago. An interment service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
