Novices Begin Their Canonical Year

On August 6th, the novitiate for the Lasallian Region of North America opened in Chicago near the campus of the Catholic Theological Union. Brother Thomas Johnson (Midwest) serves as the Director, and Brother Stephen Olert (DENA) as the Sub-Director. Brothers in formation are required to spend one full year in the novitiate studying religious life, spirituality, and the history of the De La Salle Christian Brothers.
Three men from the Midwest District started the program. Brother Mark Engelmeyer recently served at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN. Brother Matthew Kotek taught this year at CBHS in Memphis. Brother Dylan Perry taught at San Miguel Tulsa. The Novitiate also includes two DENA Brothers. Brother Paul Avvento recently taught at St. Raymond’s School in Bronx, NY, and Brother Steven Barbaro served at Central Catholic H.S. in Pittsburgh.
